Bias

Among the commoner sorts of circumstances which create a bias in the mind of a witness are all those involving some intimate family relationship to one of the parties by blood or marriage or illicit intercourse, or some such relationship to a person, other than a party, who is involved in one or the other side of the litigation, or who is otherwise prejudiced for or against one of the parties. [Wigmore Evidence, p. 949].
