The National Law Institute University, Bhopal

The National Law Institute University Established in 1997 by the State of Madhya Pradesh, it is one of the first three law schools to have been established under the National Law School system. Since its establishment, NLIU has consistently been rated among the three best law schools in India. The university admits 100 undergraduates each year through the Common Law Admission Test, who complete 15 trimesters before being awarded a combined B.A., LL.B (Hons.) degree. The post-graduate course offered at the university is the LL.M. degree. The university is a member of the Association of Indian Universities.

Courses


B.A., LL.B. (Hons.)
B.A.LL.B (Hons.) course is of five years duration with a trimester system. There are three trimesters in a year and each trimester is of three months duration. In each trimester students are taught four core courses and at least two skill courses like Computer, English, Legal Writing, Accountancy, Research Methodology etc. In the final year in addition to the compulsory courses students have to choose from a number of optional courses. NLIU follows a system of continuous evaluation. In each trimester a student has to undertake a mid term examination an end term examination and a project work (written and presentation) in each paper and a viva-voce examination.

Intake and Reservation for B.A.LL.B. Hons. 2017, NLIU admits 128 students to its B.A.LL.B (Hons.) program. Out of 68 All India General Seats 26 Seats are reserved for Madhya Pradesh State Domicile Candidates. 2 seats are reserved for candidates of States of Jammu and Kashmir. 30% seats are reserved for women as per Madhya Pradesh Lok Seva Arakshan Adhiniyam, 3% seats are reserved for Persons With Disability as per the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation).

LL. M.
Our LL.M. course is of One year duration and is divided into three trimester, we are offering specialization in Human Rights, Intellectual Property & Business Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Business Law and Criminal Law. Allocation of LL.M. subject specializations will be done at the time of admission on the basis of merit. A specialization will be offered subject to the availability of faculty and sufficient number of students opting for it.

Intake and Reservation for LL.M. Programme – 2017, One seat is horizontally reserved for candidate belonging to Persons with Disability. 10 seats under General Category are reserved for Madhya Pradesh State Domicile candidates.
12 seats (30%) are reserved for female candidates.

PH. D.
Our Ph.D course is of two years duration. Admission to Ph.D. programme is through an entrance test conducted by the University. Admission Procedure will be based on all India written test and interview.
Eligibility for Admission: LL.M. Degree with at least 55% Marks in the aggregate.

Library


The heart and soul of the University is its library “Gyan Mandir” which is housed in a centrally air-conditioned building. The library is well equipped with latest technology and tools and has a very rich collection of books, national and international journals of law and social sciences. It also has a large collection of e-resources like Lexis Nexis, Hein Online, JSTOR, Manupatra, AIR, SCC, etc.
